Jeff Legg

I must diligently search my heart to find out what really moves and captivates me. "Truth" is the essential ingredient in making art. The human soul is hopelessly bound to express it.

"Masterful" is a word often used to describe the paintings of Jeff C. Legg. Born in 1959 in Joplin , Missouri , he was apprentice to a well-known regional artist and college art professor by the age of 12. This relationship laid the foundation for his painting and drawing skills. Later he went on to study at Atelier Lack and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.

His luminous still life oils have established national recognition and garnered numerous awards since he began painting full-time at age 30. Legg is recognized as a signature member by the "Oil Painters of America." His work can be seen in distinguished galleries across the United States and is highly sought after and collected in America and abroad. His paintings have been featured in Southwest Art magazine, The Artists Magazine, and North Light book publishers.

Mr. Legg resides in the Ozark Mountain foothills nestled in a lush valley in Missouri with his wife and three children.

My earliest memory of doing "art". circa 1963

""Because children have abounding vitality, because they are in spirit fierce and free, therefore they want things repeated and unchanged. They always say, 'Do it again'; and the grown-up person does it again until he is nearly dead. For grown-up people are not strong enough to exult in monotony. But perhaps God is strong enough to exult in monotony. It is possible that God says every morning, 'Do it again' to the sun; and every evening, 'Do it again' to the moon. It may not be automatic necessity that makes all daisies alike; it may be that God makes every daisy separately, but has never got tired of making them. It may be that He has the eternal appetite of infancy; for we have sinned and grown old, and our Father is younger than we.""

--G.K. Chesterton from the book Orthodoxy first published in 1908 Harold Shaw Publishers, 1994(p.61)
