Wood Turner
“Each piece
that I turn is different and unique....it is my passion”
As a young boy
growing up in Mississippi, Chris Pytlik helped his grandfather cut trees for firewood. During
that time, he developed a love for the beauty of wood and its grain. To
this day, Chris is driven to salvage the most exquisitely grained wood
in trees that are destined for the land fill. His amazing pieces, often
turned of burl, demonstrate meticulous attention to style and form.
Pytlik’s
creative process requires patience as a single piece can take up to a
year to complete. Rough cutting, rough turning, drying, final turning,
staining, and finishing must each be done in their proper turn with
great skill to achieve the beauty in Chris’ works of art. The salad
bowls are functional as well as beautiful and are finished with a
nontoxic finish and can be touched up with mineral or walnut oil.
