Bear is a woodworker who resides in Montana, Bear grew up working for his family business which fostered his passion for woodworking. His passion turned into a hobby which soon turned into a full-time business making fine furniture from local & exotic hardwoods. Bear takes pride in his work and his attention to detail sets him apart from other craftsmen. He travels the country searching for the perfect lumber and material for his furniture and flags.

In 2020, Bear was inspired by the heroic frontline workers and wanted to show his support. With a nation divided, he carved his first  American Flag and presented it to the Missoula Police Department. The local news shared his story and within days it was picked up by a national news outlet. He received overwhelming support from all over the country and began commissioning orders for these beautifully handcrafted flags.

The Process -

Each flag is hand carved from solid live-oak planks ranging in thickness from 3”-9”.  The lumber is hundreds of years old and is sourced from old turn-of-the-century mills and farms from around the country. Some flags are carved on both sides to give a realistic 3-dimensional waving effect and to lighten the weight. He finishes with a tinted catalyzed lacquer and catalyzed glaze. The stars are cut from 1/8" oak and are placed on the flag individually. It takes Bear approximately 100-180 hours to complete each flag.

Currently you can find his flags on display at the Montana State Capital, David J Thatcher V.A Hospital in Missoula, Astoria Fine Art in Jackson Hole Wyoming.
